The 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty series was named the 2016 Truck of Texas for the second year since 2014. This is the 13th time the F-Series has won the award in its 23-year history.
The Texas Auto Writers Association held the Truck of Texas Rodeo at Longhorn River Ranch in Austin, where trucks from every brand were put through their paces and judged by a panel of 70 journalists, who voted on various categories.
The F-Series Super Duty won the overall “Truck of Texas” award, while the Super Duty won the “Heavy Duty Pickup” award and the Ford F-150 was recognized as having the best powertrain. Ford also received the award for “Truck Line of Texas.”
Though the Nissan Titan XD took the “Truck of Texas” title last year, interrupting what could have been a streak for Ford, the TAWA was particularly impressed this year with the F-Series’ use of aluminum for the bed, which both reduced weight in the truck and improved strength. The F-Series is also on a frame of 95% steel, making it 24 times stiffer than the frame used in the 2016 model.
Nissan, Volvo, Toyota, and Jeep also won awards in the competition for their trucks and SUVs, but no brand won as many truck awards as Ford.
